TK Music Lab leader Matthew Thomason will be performing his new piano suite ‘Gwlaskor’, joined by the TK Ensemble, at Truro School Chapel on Saturday 25th February.
Cornwall-based composer Matthew Thomason will be performing his new piano suite ‘Gwlaskor’ in the atmospheric Truro School Chapel. ‘Gwlaskor’ is inspired by the lives and landscapes of Cornwall and evokes the rich mythical heritage and modern societal challenges of Cornwall today.
Matthew will be joined by Martin Skews, a singer-songwriter and composer from Falmouth, Cornwall. Having written and performed extensively as a folk/rock singer-songwriter throughout his teens, his discovery of the likes of Stravinsky, Ravel and Bernard Herrman ultimately channelled his interests into the realm of classical and film music.
For the finale of the show, Matthew will be joined by the TK Ensemble: a group of young musicians from Cornwall and Romania who took part in the TK Music Lab. The Ensemble will premiere a new suite of co-composed music that was commissioned by the British Council in partnership with Carn to Cove. Matthew visited the city of Sibiu, Translyvania, in July to begin working with the musicians before returning to Cornwall to work with a cohort of Cornwall based musicians to complete the pieces.
