Cornwall needs a good quality grand piano that can be available for concerts and recitals around Cornwall and to transform access to great music to all. Carn to Cove, launchedPiano Go Round a project that will enable superb piano, chamber music and jazz concerts to take place in many communities, which currently lack a piano in March 2020.
We have now secured a Steinway B Concert Grand Piano which has been loaned to Carn to Cove for touring around Cornwall by Falmouth University’s Academy of Music and Theatre Arts. A large part of the fund-raising effort objective of Piano Go Round has therefore, amazingly, been achieved during lockdown!
We thank all contributors to the fund and we now encourage everyone interested in high quality music in Cornwall to help us with the next step in providing resources for moving the piano from town to village in the planned future Piano Go Round tours. The Steinway Grand was inaugurated on 24th July 2021 with a recital by William Howard, and further concerts given by him for Piano Go Round took place in Portscatho and Constantine in November 2021. The piano was also the focus for all the activity of the Chapel Street Music Festival also in July 2020 at the Methodist Church in Penzance. A new venue for classical music was also opened up at Cape Cornwall Club with a concert of Chamber music By the Chapel Street Ensemble in November 2021.
The interest we attracted during the initial fundraising period gave us offers of pianos around Cornwall that we could access, so the initial funding that was secured has been used to tune and move those around. The Piano Go Round brand is now being transferred to a different charity, who will drive the project forward, under the stewardship of Tim Smithies.
