Grassroots Opera are a new company of young professional singers passionate about bringing opera to rural locations. They present engaging and accessible opera in intimate settings, in its original language, with an exciting cast and creative team of emerging young artists.
Orfeo ed Euridice, with its plot originating in Greek mythology, focuses upon the grief of Orfeo at the loss of his wife Euridice, and his journey into the underworld when given by Amore (the personification of love) one last chance to retrieve her from eternal bliss. Is there more pain to be had in fighting nature? Can Euridice really be brought back, or has Orfeo been driven mad by grief? In this production, Grassroots Opera explore the lines between love and obsession, reality and imagination.
“A terrific show: elegantly choreographed and impressively performed.” Audience member, 2017.
