Four travelling activists arrive in town, eager-eyed and brimming with ideas. The times are tough, there’s a sniff of trouble in the air and poverty is always just around the corner. The artistes will enchant you with their songs and illuminate some unsettling truths about life.
Smile is a poignant ‘Chaplinesque’ comedy, looking at various aspects of life. It blends charming physical comedy with sublime singing – ranging from opera and lieder to cabaret and musical theatre. Repertoire includes Puccini, Verdi and Grieg, plus jazz standards and popular songs from the twentieth century. Smile is an honest and affirming look at life with all its triumphs and potholes: Love, loss, children, desire, despair and always with a smile!
