Richard Trethewey is a Cornish singer and multi-instrumentalist with a fierce pride for its traditions and culture. ‘Story Singer’ is his book, which brings together all the songs and tunes he has written over a seventeen-year period.
Richard is a Bard of the Cornish Gorsedh who’s Bardic name ‘Kaner Drollys’ means ‘Singer of Stories’.
It is when Richard finds an incredible story from Cornwall’s unique history that he is moved to write a song or tune to help protect its legacy.
Expect tales of smuggling, fortunes won, eccentric characters from Cornwall’s past, industrial strikes, songs of fishermen, Cornish emigration, love and loss.
This is an opportunity to see Richard performing his own material in an intimate setting.
Richard has performed with a wide range of Cornwall’s finest, including ‘The Grenaways’, ‘The Rowan Tree, Brother Sea, with Bec Applebee as ‘Didjan’, in Cousin Jack’s Theatre’s ‘The Mousehole Cat’, with Camborne Town Band or most recently as part of Kneehigh’s Random Acts of Art.
