QOW TRIO are a modern jazz trio inspired by the classic tenor sax trio albums released by Sonny Rollins in the 1950s, but moving beyond their influences to present a wide range of modern jazz from Lester Young to John Coltrane to Dewey Redman the most up to date sounds of today. They are a truly multi-generational outfit with a wealth of experience and deep authentic roots in the tradition. Drummer Spike Wells is a long-standing legend on the UK jazz scene, whose incredible career includes long creative partnerships with two of the UK’s greatest ever tenor players Tubby Hayes and Bobby Wellins. Tenor saxophonist Riley Stone-Lonergan is a multi-award winning young player and a regular at Ronnie Scott’s and across the London scene. Bassist Eddie Myer is known for his facility with a range of different genres. Their set list includes classic standards and lesser known material, all treated with a super engaging verve, free-ranging group improvisation and a big helping of swing. Their debut album was released in 2020 to universal acclaim.
QOW TRIO present a really fresh and engaging take on modern jazz that’s designed to appeal to connoisseurs but can also reach out to more casual listeners. They have a wealth of experience and their set list ranges from the freshest contemporary material to original explorations of classic well-loved standards. They have a warm and inclusive stage presence, and radiate a relaxed confidence and an utterly committed passion for the music.
“Their playing just reminds you of the joy of being alive, and in these troubled times there can be no better medicine than great music played well.” Jazz Views
“Their debut record sounds like a series of spontaneous, direct and honest conversations, taking place across time and space, with melody, swing, warmth and passion for the music as the constant factors throughout.” Jazzwise
