Pianist Libby Burgess is undertaking a monumental challenge, performing Bach’s epic “48” in every one of England’s 48 counties, to raise funds for musical charities. The opportunity to hear them in Cornwall will be spread across four concerts of which this is the third.

Inspired by Bach’s own dedication of this music for ‘the musical youth’ and ‘those already skilled’, the project is supporting Help Musicians, Live Music Now, Future Talent and Youth Music: between them they help hundreds of thousands of musicians every year. All proceeds go to these organisations.

The Well-Tempered Clavier is a masterpiece of Western art, only rarely performed in its entirety. Each of the 48 preludes and fugues lasts only a few minutes, but they explore a wealth of characters, styles, and moods, journeying through the whole gamut of human emotional experience.

Find out more on the Project 48 website.

A Cornish cream tea will be served before the concert from 3.30pm. This is included in the ticket price, but donations are welcome.

Audiences are invited to explore the beautiful gardens at Lavethan, weather permitting.

Directions to Lavethan, Blisland, PL30 4QG:
Drive through Blisland village with the green on your right, past the church on your left. After the green, turn left down the lane signposted towards Merrymeeting. After a quarter of a mile, turn left between two stone gate-posts without a gate, onto a tree-lined drive.

Parking
Will be clearly signposted in the big top field on the left of the drive, and we ask you to leave a space of at least 2 metres between each car. There’s a walk of 150 metres down the drive to the Barn. Limited disabled parking/drop-off will be available closer to the Barn; however, please note that there is still a 70-metre walk across grass to the Barn entrance.
