This year’s Dante Summer Festival opens at Launceston Town Hall with a concert and workshop from the internationally renowned Brodsky Quartet, illustrious cellist Laura van der Heijden (BBC Young Musician of the Year 2012), and the talented young players of Trigg Strings, from local schools.
As a prelude to the evening concert we are holding a special free workshop for children, young students and their parents. The Brodsky Quartet with Laura van der Heijden offer a guided tour of the evening concert, playing highlights from the greatest piece of romantic music: Schubert’s great C Major Quintet. The musicians will describe Schubert’s life and times, demonstrate the inner workings of this extraordinary piece, and show how Schubert – using just five stringed instruments – manages to express the heights of joy, the depths of despair and everything in between.
After the workshop the children will be able to chat to the musicians over a drink and snack. If Covid restrictions are still in place, we will find a way to make this work!
